The part i dread every build, canopies. This kit is a six part canopy that can do closed or with the pilot and radio ops entry glass open. At this stage i am still undecided about which way to go. The inside framework i brush painted rlm66 while the outside sections were airbrushed to follow the fuselage colours rlm 75/76. Masking was Tamiya tape and a sharp blade, no mask kit supplied. The inside frame work was touched up in the see through areas were i had not applied enough paint and the outside i cleaned up with a toothpick around the frame edges once i had it sitting on the fuselage.
Time to get the props sorted. Since i had already cleaned them up previously all i had to do was paint and then glue them whilst they sat in the aligner.
Comparison to the Meng kit supplied versions.
Wheels I had been plodding along with these in between parts drying. The parts are decently detailed and the tyres are very nice. RLM02 for the struts with black for the rubber coverings, some drybrushing on the rims and Vallejo earth pigments to finish the tyres off. I added my first attempt at brake lines made out of brass tube, they aren't the best but it's a start.
The fuselage gun locators needed trimming as they pushed the gun cupola past flush with the fuselage, sprayed the fuselage white band and test fitted the guns.
After several test fits of the wings and some slight trimming and sanding of the spars they were glued to the fuselage. They are a tight fit and the rear lower flaps sit a bit askew on both sides that was fixed with some minor sanding. The engine and covers on the left wing were added, puttied, sanded and re riveted were i had sanded off the detail.
Finally up on her wheels! Just a dry fit at this stage but it was nice to get her belly off the ground.
Front wheel doors added and placed the spiral decals on the spinners. I was worried they would not fit the Quickboost replacements but with some Tamiya Markfit they went down nicely.
After spraying the clear coat prior to decals i let it sit for a full 24 hours to cure. She was starting to look the business.
