The inner wing stripes (RLM70) yellowing the rudder (RLM04) and applying the fuselage splotches ( RLMO2 and RLM71) The stripes gave me some mild grief as i struggled to get an exact width. First off they were too thin so i remasked and sprayed them slightly wider inboard. I still wasn't totally happy with them but as usual one has to wait until the complete paint job comes together to see how it all looks. The splotches i sprayed at the lowest psi i could, around 10 but still didn't feel like i had total control of the pattern or sizing. I'm looking at getting a finer brush for this sort of stuff.
While i let all of that settle it was onto painting the slats, prop and spinner and some other pieces. Then the plane was cleared and let sit under lamps for a few hours and then a couple of days while i moved onto the Trop version.
Primed and under lamps for the Trop
The sand yellow is RLM79 and quite light, this also could have used a lighter preshade colour as it took about seven coats to get the required finish i was after. The white went down really nicely, 50/50 windex and Vallejo mix at 12-15 psi. The lower blue on the Trop is a darker shade compared to it's Western front contemparies, RLM78. The final touch was the yellow lower nose which will need some touching up.
Clear coat and decal time. The cartograf decals are lovely, detailed and strong. I managed to rewet and move them on the model with no splitting issues like with some other brands. I let both models sit overnight before clearing the decals and then let them sit another day before i moved onto any weathering. This is the stage when i cannot wait to add some detail and then matt down that high gloss finish out as it really starts to look very toy like.
